I'm curious if anyone knows of any sources for blowers/fans that come in existing equipment/appliances. I'm looking for free sources on craigslist. The only thing that comes to mind is a furnace or perhaps a dryer. What other sources can be had? Squirrel cage style fans would be preferable, but I'm open to any other sources.

The use of this fan would be to evacuate exhaust gasses from a vehicle at idle or during mild engine Rev's.

How many CFM are you looking to move? The HVAC industry utilizes squirrel cage type fans for tons of applications. You can check your local refrigeration supply house and see what they have, or do a quick search online and see what you can come up with. I'd suggest heading out to home depot or loews (whatever's closest to you) and checking out some bathroom exhaust fans that people use to pull steam from their bathrooms during hot showers. Check it out:

CFM's...I'm not sure. I was thinking that anything out of a dryer or furnace would likely be oversized. Really, not only will the blower be used for drawing exhaust through the tubes, but it will be used for cooling the cheap dryer hose I'll be running by sucking in air to cool the exhaust gasses.

Thanks for the offer Shaolin Crane...but the limit of my funding will be for a carbon monoxide detector. Everything else I'm determined to do for free (or next to free). As I'm unemployed...funds are at a premium, and I'm really only looking for a fun project that will allow me to get some tranny fluid in the mustang and do some minor tuning.

Thanks to Shaolin Crane, I now have what I feel will be an adequate blower on the way (at no cost I might add). The only request...to pay it forward, so I will happily oblige. :nice:

I'll go ahead and add a link to the build in a new thread when I get started. First things first though....a carbon monoxide detector is needed. :nice:
