Do the 08s have the same head/spark plug issues as previous 3v 4.6 engines? (I also have an 04 F-150 5.4 3v with the two-piece plug issue.) Also, think I read somewhere that the shifter in the 08 has been upgraded from previous models. Is this true? Actually I'm really impressed with the way the stang shifts, and that's coming from an 06 6 spd Miata known for its great "snick-snick" shifts. With only 150 miles on the clock so far, haven't done any hard shifts yet. The test is always the 2-3 shift...

The swithchover for the new heads was Nov '07 and I think the code for the new heads/plugs is "AB" vs "AA" on the original heads. Check the sticker on your driver's side valve cover. Most '08's have the new heads.

Just checked my heads, have the AA code on the sticker. Guess that's not good.

I'm not so sure. My 08 was built in April 08 and has the AB engine code as it supposedly should. However, I looked at a few 09 valve covers today on cars that were built in LATE 08 and they have code AA on the valve cover?! Now i'm not so sure what to think. I guess those of us with 08's or 09's will have to pull a plug to be sure.

If you decide to upgrade the old style heads to the new style, apparently the coils need to be upgraded as well.
