Spark Problems!

My spark is arcing from the #7 distributor terminal to the clip which holds the cap in place.

These are brand new wires and plugs. The spark plug was cleaned and gap was double checked. Dielectric grease was put on both ends of the wire and on the plug threads.

Ideas?

Though I don't think it matters hugely, I would use copper neverseize on the threads. The act of threading the plug in should have achieved solid grounding but it you want, pull the plug, clean it and put it back in.

Also, if you want, swap this wire and another. If the issue follows the wire, you know the plug should not be the issue.

Clean that crap off the plug threads, for one.
Dielectric grease is meant to insulate.

Check your cap for cracks, make sure the die-grease is only on the rubber/plastic/ceramic parts and not on the metal parts.

Sparking down the sides of the cap often leaves a carbon track that makes the problem worse. Inspect the cap very closely and use some fine sandpaper to remove any carbon tracking until you can replace the cap and spark plug wire.

you dont put that crap on the threads! you use anti seize!the stuff you put on the threads is an insulator ! like was stated already!

Turns out the cap was faulty. There was an imperfection in the casting which caused a small bubble or something alongside the terminal.

I'm not sure what you all have against using dielectric grease though. Dielectric grease works wonders to stop corrosion which WILL wreak havoc on an ignition system. True it does not conduct electricity but it does not hamper that transfer on metal to metal contact, i.e. cap to wire to plug.
