Speaker grill removal from door panels

Heya

Long story short, I have a pair of black door panels that I will not be using except for the speaker grilles. I'd simply rip them off, however these panels look brand new, and being black should fetch some coin. I don't care about the 6 plastic pal nuts getting damaged (50resto carries em), but I want to avoid damaging the door panel in anyway.

Should I simply use a pair of pliers and crunch those pal nuts to bits, or is there another good method?

why dont you just use the panel? Or find a junk set to rip the grills off. Nobody will wnat them without the grilles.

Two reasons:
Power
I'm going with a two tone theme in my car, and already have custom panels made.

These were free to me, so if they don't sell, oh well. I figure there are more black speaker grilles out there, then mint condition o/e door panels these days

Now that that's cleared up, anyone have some ideas for removing the grilles.

5.0 resto sells brand new black grills i think.

To be honest, i'd sell em as is and buy a new set of black grills

^^^ That has crossed my mind, but being in Canada after duties etc... they're a bit more than $40. I'll probably try selling em whole first, if they don't I'll separate the grilles (and spend $6+ for the nuts).

I figured others had removed intact speaker grilles before, seems every other fox door card I look at those pal nuts are no longer present, and they just fall off.

Mine never had nuts. The plastic posts were melted over to keep them from pulling through the panels

I guess this kit that resto sells the nuts in, are added protection to keep your speaker grilles secured by the posts. I got to thinking tonight, there's no way all these door panels I looked at didn't have a single nut (looked at many in the boneyards before finding good gray ones).

That's a good trick 5L5, I think I'll do that if I transfer these grilles to my customized panels.
