help -speedo cable issues

I am installing a new speedo cable and i am running into a problem. The metal piece that extends out of the cable that goes through the speedo senser is not long enough to go into the speedo gear itself. It is about an inch away from being long enough. my car is a 90 gt, is there anyway i could of gotten the wrong size cable? Thanks in advance for your reply - Jim

its not that the cable is too short, its that the metal piece that extends out of the cable and goes through the vss and into the speedo gear is too short. the metal piece is going through the vss but is an inch short of going in to the speedo gear itself

has anyone changed their speedo cable and know what i mean about the end with the metal piece sticking out. mine is not lonf enough to go in to the speedo gear on the end of the speedo sensor

If I remember correctly, there is about 3/4"-1" of cable that sticks out beyond the housing. There is nothing to keep it from sliding back into the housing if the speedo head unit is not connected to the cable. The cable on the head unit end has a washer or stop made onto it to keep the cable from sliding up and out of the VSS sensor .
