The battery went dead and I charged it up. When I got the car rolling the speedometer does not work, the check engine light comes on, and the o/d off light starts flashing. I suspect a sensor burnt out or something equally frustrating.

Any clues would be appreciated.

Shoot. I replaced the speed sensor. Not a bad ordeal just jacking up the car was the worst of it. Still no luck. I pulled every fuse and they all look good. The cigarette lighter works so the speedcalc is getting power. Somebody said there was a red light on the speed calc but there isn't on mine. Is this going to have to be a game of replace stuff until it works?

Puzzled puzzled puzzled.

I didn't know the car had a speedcal. Can you remove it for the moment to see whether it is the problem...?

trinity I am looking into doing that. Problem is you mod the connector and I don't know if I can reverse it.

Hi, I'm new around here, I bought a 97 GT Auto today and on driving it home I got EXACTLY what you described above, I'd love to know the outcome as I'm totally baffled. I brought it home after it had sat in a car lot it had boost cables on the battery and its gone dead in my driveway. I'm also guessing it's not the proper battery for the car (only 44 amp hours) and it's too small in size too.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear from you too.

Steve

Steve...If the battery doesn't have a full charge it will cause all kinds of electrical issues. Could be weak.

Geaux... I'd think possibly the same for you since your issue started after the battery went dead. What caused it to drain? It's possible the SpeedCal took a dump but it may have a loose connection. Anytime my speedo went out it was due to this.

Thanks for the quick reply, I charged the battery overnight but I've still got the same problems, not convinced the battery is the correct one nor is it being charged by the alternator, the dash gauge never shows anymore than 12v and while running it should be higher than that. Maybe the battery is in a bad state too, so come monday I'll fit a new "proper" battery and see where we go, the car is running fine meanwhile but it's not nice having all the lights flashing in case there is a problem that could be causing further problems.

Again many thanks for the reply, and sorry for diving in with my first post as a major question.

Steve
