Speedo doesn't work

When I got my 91 it came with 4:10's from the previous owner. He never changed the gear in the tranny at the end of the cable. So the speedo read higher than it should. I bought the gear and put it in. It worked for a lil while and then started going crazy again. Checked out the gear and it was shreded. I got pissed and hit my dash. now it dosent work at all. Anybody have any solutions?

by crazy do you mean bouncing around??

just curious. i have that problem where it bounces around

Don't feel too bad my does the same thing and I replaced the gear mutiple times. You should pull the speedo gear back out and check it again. Mine broke the speedo gear twice so I changed out the drive gear inside. It hasn't broke the speedo gear yet but the damn thing bounces up until 40 mph and is off when I'm on the hwy.

As for it not working at all now, you prob broke something behind the dash where the cable connects.

Yeah , it was bouncing around. How hard is it to change the other gear? i was about to get a new cable and gear.

you have to pull the trans, and then pull the tailshaft off. Its not hard put I intially had problems doing it and i've seen of others. If its not your dd than you should be fine. And like i said its not hard there are just a couple tricks you learn as you go.

What do you mean by dd? I have an AOD trans is it similar to the stick when changing that gear?

dd=Daily driver. And i don't know how to change the drive gear out on an AOD. Sorry

Yeah it is my dd. its ok im leaving for the USMC in a couple weeks so it wont be getting driven all the time. started up and spun around the block.

If you have a GPS you can set it for mph. I told my old buddy to do that and he will never fix his speedo now...

lol! i do have a GPS but my car dosent rack up miles and i want it to. plus i want to have a working speedo. thanks for the idea i didnt even think of that. ill figure it out.
