Speedo Gear? This might be tough.....

Ok so my car has 3.08s, and I am putting in 3:55s. I need to figure out which speedo gear to buy though. My car has a t5, but I dont know what year car the cluster came out of, so I cant figure out what gear I need. Could someone help me out here?

Thanks alot

If you are talking about the gauge cluster, that has no bearing on the speedo gears. They all read the number of cable turns the same to calculate MPH. What does matter is the number of teeth on the output shaft drive gear for the speedo cable. And that is usually determined by the year and model number of the tranny, if it has not been changed. That info is on the tranny tag.

You don't need to find/read/interpret that tag to solve the problem. You only need to know the color of the drive gear to determine the number of teeth on - pull the VSS out of the way and look inside the drive gear hole with a flashlight. Armed with the color of the drive gear, you'll know the number of teeth. That info and the website listed in my previous post will tell you what driven gear you need.

In fact, it is possible that the drive gear has been changed along the way. If that's the case, the tag info is going to be inaccurate anyway. Check out the drive gear color; count the number of teeth on the driven gear - and go from there.
