Speedocable Leaking From C4

I been wanting to post this for a long time. Last winter my C4 transmission started leaking where the speedo cables goes into the trans. The spot was the size of a cd disc. I replaced the o-ring seal and it helped out alot but was still getting drops hanging from the cable sometimes.

So it there anyway to enhance the o-ring seal? I tried putting rtv on the seal itself but it actually made the leak worse. So I replace it again and now getting drops of oil hanging from the cable again. Im thinking of putting thread sealant on the o-ring. Anyone try this?

Is it leaking from the O-ring, or where the cable is crimped into the fitting on the end of the cable?

Mine leaked at the latter. I just got a small piece of marine heat shrink with the adhesive/sealant inside, and shrunk it over the end of the crimp, and that was the end of that.

Im not really sure if its from the crimp. My started leaking a small puddle while sitting all winter. I thought it was kinda weird. I think I always had a little drop hanging from the cable though. The C4 has been in my car since 2003. Thanks for the reply.

Im using Dex/Mercon fluid. The oil is very thin. Thinking of going Type F fluid since its thicker.

O rings do not use any type of sealant or goop on them; the are the seal.

Make sure the groove that the O ring sits in is clean and free of any dirt, sealant or junk. Make sure the other surface where the O seats against is also clean and free of any dirt, sealant or junk, Use the recommended lubricant to fill the transmission and use the same lubricant to coat the O ring before installation.

I bet it's not the o-ring, but rather the crimp at the end. If it's an aftermarket cable, I would guess this is the case even more so.

You are right i don't think its the the o-ring. I just checked underneath. I have a drop hanging from the bottom of the electronic plug after wiping it clean last night. The o-ring area was bone dry.

The picture below is not mine but as reference. See that little silver clip ring at the very right, that is where my dribble of oil was hanging from. Right where the middle finger is pointing.
Can I pull it out with a pair of pliers, then take the electronic plug off before sealing it with some silicone?

I believe there is an o-ring inside there as well. I could be wrong as it's been a while.

The clip is more of a spring that secures the cable in the VSS. A good yank will free the cable, or remove the clip
