I just installed 3:73 gears in my 96 GT. Seems the Speedo is about 15-20 MPH off at speeds of 55-75. Any quick, cheap fixes known would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, I think for the 96 he has a mechanical speedo so he will need to change the gear that drives it? I think...

But yeah, a quick forum search should reveal a wealth of info on this topic.

Mechanical Speedo, YES

It is a Mechanical Speedo. Not Digital. Where is the Gear? to correct this?

it should be the drive gears at the tranny that should be changed for those years i don't think that a tuner would do it

A more accurate way to correct the speedo can be done with a speedcal. Don't believe a chip can correct on '96-98 model years.

You can order the correct speedo gear from steeda or ford racing its about $20 for the gear and i believe it's located on the side of the tranny. Its a lot cheaper than a tuner.

i thought that anything higher than 3.73's couldn't be fixed, or is that with 4.10's? oh and wouldn't he have to change a gear in the tranny as well?
