with the 4:10 gears that our in the 86 the speedo if off by 10 mph so when it says were going 35 were really going 25.

id like to get this done for my dad. But also i though of buying a new white face gague kit with the 140 mph white face speedometer that i would like to lay on it. it has the 105 mph on it right now.

with this? Can i put the 140 mph one on it and then put a new speedo gear on it? OR would i have to have it taken to a dealership or something to have them recalibrate it.

Thanks stangnet.

please keep the hater comments to a min. as this is a legit question, and i used the search...i got nonthing it wouldn't work for me

anyways thanks.

Now that is put in legit english i will answer. You will need to get the speedo recalibrated to read up to 140mph. And you will need the little gear to compensate for the gears. Even with the correct plastic gear to compensate it may still read off. The correct way to recalibrate it, is to replace the gear inside the tranny.

I never knew of any pre 87 cars that came with factory 140mph gauges, and I wouldn't imagine anybody would calibrate a 20 year old speedometer. Id just stick with buying a speedo gear (cj pony parts) and living with the stock speedo gauge, its not like you are gonna go 140mph anyhow.

Nope I'm not kidding, you need to read my post, I said I'm not aware of any pre 1987 cars that came factory with 140mph gauges.

Im going by your second sentence. They still recalibrate 87+ speedos which are 20 years old by now.

Ryan, I bought a white speedo gear from CJ Pony Parts for my 86 vert w/ 4.10's and the speedo was so damn close, tire size could have adjusted it.
