Speedometer tweaking out !!

OK so out of no were last week, my spedo. jumps from 0 - 110 when i gun it. then it will drop to 0 and chill there for a while until i get on it again. the when Im going about 60-70 it jumps to 140, WTF is going on , please help guys ???

Your speedometer gear may have bit the dust and
needs to be replaced.It is not uncommon for speedometer
gears to become worn or chewed up over time.

Uhh, if its like my 2000 gt its all electric. your guage cluster harness my have a bad conection.

I can relate. On my 98 GT, it reads fine up to like 55-60 ... but then if I punch it, it wraps to 150. In fact, right now it's stuck under the pin that it is supposed to sit on. The only way I can get it to wrap back around is to go like 130 (or take the cluster out). I just figured that the needle was spinning inside the gauge needle then catching ... It is hella annoying!

your 97 has a VSS sensor, most likey the VSS sensor or it's gear is bad.
