I just finished reassembling my car from the winter project. I ported the heads, intakes, and tb. The car ran great last year before I put it away, now that it is back together I have problems. I have an 88 SD system, with a stick. I changed to longtubes, and I figured why not change the o2's? So I have new o2 sensors installed. Otherwise the combo is the same as it was last fall. The car isnt running right. It stumbles terribly around 2k, and seems to clear up some after 2.5k. It slightly misses all the way up to 5k it seems. I ran codes and the computer says it is a rich condition. Ok, so I turned my fp down, and it does the same thing. I ran the codes with it running, and it said ok on the fuel condition. I drove it up the road and back, same problem. When I got back i checked the codes again, still says I am rich. I had to extend the wires for the o2's, and I have new sensors. Could it be that I have a wire problem down there? I would think that the problem is localized within the fuel system, as the missing is in the same rpm range, plus I have new plugs and wires, so......... Could it be a faulty injector, since the injectors sat out? any input is greatly appriciated.

I just did basically the same thing. How did you extend your o2 sensor wires. I spliced in about a foot of wire and soldiered them. I am having a terrible idel, stumble all over the place.

Hey Mean88 Do you have off road pipe? The fact that the o2 is further down stream and if you have off road the o2 may not be getting hot enough to operate properly giving a bad signal

Yes, I have an off road h pipe. The sensors are quite a ways further down the stream. What can I do to correct this???

two things you can do. Go to muffler shop and have them move the bung up on one of the primary tubes or better is go to a heated type O2 sensor. When the O2 doesnt get hotenough the computor thinks it should stay in open loop. Ive not had this problem as Ive only run shorties maybe some of the other guys and girls with long tubes can share what theyve done

Surely this is the problem, right? What is the difference between the two types of sensors? Any extra wiring? When the car is in open loop does that cause the rich condition in the codes? Also, will disconnecting the o2 sensors do the same thing, or will it help? Anyone else dealt with this? Thanks alot guys.

I dont know if the o2 is your problem but when i ran longtubes my mechanic had some sensors that had a longer wire on them. I put them on and I havent had any problems at all with them. But I also put the bung in the collector of my header.

Hey Ted One thing I jsut thought of is make sure you have a good vacuum signal to the MAP sensor. On SD this is very important

well, I checked on the heated type of o2. Turns out I already have them. Could it still be that the sensor is too far away from the hot exhaust, far enough that it isnt getting a good signal even with heated o2's? I am going to rip the extensions apart that I spliced in and check the circuit for power. It sucks for me, since the computer needs good o2s on the sd. With mass air the system meters the air, whereas my system depends on the good working o2 system. If you have any more info, or good ideas let me know.

The man at the auto parts store today told me that a heated o2 will get warm once the ignition is on. The car is ice cold from sitting all day, so I turned the ignition on and in a minute I touched the o2s. Both Ice cold. Does anyone have a diagram for the o2 wiring? It seems like the o2s arent working at all. Maybe I wired them wrong? Let me know what you come up with.
Thanks
Ted
