Splice in X-Pipe???

Hey guys just installed the Pypes Pype Bomb exhaust today. Sounds great but I was looking for a little different sound. I would like the exhaust note to be a little higher pitch and not so deep. I was looking on Brenspeed.com and I saw that they sold a Pypes splice in X-Pipe. (I have to keep the cats on) Do you guys think it would change the exhaust note a little?

From what I understand, Yes. An x-pipe usually causes a slightly higher, raspier note than the h-pipe, and can lessen drone in some cases. If you don't care about cutting into your stock pipe, then this is the way to go. Plus, you should gain a couple hp from the improved flow. There's a youtube video of a guy with a 2010 and x-pipe with Pype Bomb, check it out.

Hey man I really appreciate the response. I think I will give it a try. Its only $115 so its not like Im going to lose a lot if I decide I don't like it. Thanks again. If anyone else has any input feel free.

Just get the BBK X-pipe, which simply replaces your stock H-pipe. It doesn't require splicing (only 4 clamps), and it isn't much more expensive.

Does that include cats? Because the OP stated he has to keep the cats.

Hey skyrender, I cant find the x-pipe your talking about? Is it an off road x or can I keep my cats?

Yes, you keep your stock cats. It only replaces the H-pipe and clamps on behind the stock catalytic converters. This is probably the next mod I'm doing on my '11 GT.

How much of a difference in sound are we looking at here? Ive heard going to an x-pipe will make you lose low end torque. Is this true?

The splice in X may not make that much of a difference. Here is video comparing stock h and slp lm with a splice in x and slp lm. I can't hear that much of difference. If you want a catted x, then get on that includes the cats. BBK, Pypes, magnflow, bassani, and slp make them. New these set-ups are $380 to about 450.

I've looked into this, and it seems pretty much it's a sound thing. Since the cats are the same, I don't think you will gain anything in performance, and the factory tubes are plenty big to already not offer restriction, but I have heard you get a bit higher and raspier tone. I am considering doing the same mod to get rid of some of the highway drone on my car, and its something you can do right in the driveway.

I'm considering doing it just to see what it sounds like. The Pype Bomb axle back sounds really aggressive and it has that low growl which I really like. But on the other hand I think it's a little too deep for my taste. It does drone quite a bit at lower speeds but I really don't mind it because my car isn't a daily driver. I've read some reviews on the splice in x pipe off of Brenspeed.com and everyone seems to really like the sound of it. One review stated they could feel a small HP increase.

An x-pipe will give you better high RPM flow, will help eliminate resonance ("droning"), and shouldn't make much of a difference at low RPMs.

I'm going to give it a try. It will only cost $200 total installed. I would like to get rid of some of the drone. The drone that I have now makes things buzz inside the car at low RPM sometimes. It kinda bothers me. Maybe the x pipe will fix that. Plus I might pick up a few HP. I just hope it sounds good. I don't want to lose that aggressive growl that it has now.

Hey ya'll I was looking on americanmuscle.com and I saw that FRPP made a cut and clamp x-pipe too. It looks totally different than the Pypes cut and clamp x. Anybody have a suggestion or some input???

You want an X-pipe like BBK's or Corsa's. This is known as a "siamesed" x-pipe and provides better flow characteristics.

I checked out the bbk and it looks the same as the pypes to me. What's the difference?

Pypes x-pipe design is ideal for flow. I do have the pypes catted X and I had one of the best exhaust shops in San Diego county do the install. Yes, I have done a mid-pipe install before but the pypes involved cutting and I wanted the cats welded on. The owner, Ed Hanson is one of the pioneers of the X-pipe. He said the pypes x-pipe design is an ideal design.

FRPP looks the same minus that little plate welded over the pipe union. I personally plan on going with whatever is cheapest as down the line I'm getting LTs and a Prochamber anyway.
