springs

i know you are supposed to upgrade your shocks and struts when you get lowering springs but can i go a few months after getting the springs before upgrading. cuz i wanna go ahead and lower it but i wont have to money for the shocks and struts for a couple months. also, would the h&r super sports made for a 94-04 convertible fit a cobra convertible, is there a difference in fit for springs for a cobra versus a gt.

A couple months ago I was in the same position as you. I went ahead with the Eibahc Prokit springs(1.5 inch drop) and have no regrets yet. They feel good to drive on and they make the stance of your car 10 times as good as factory springs do. I have friends that have 2inch drop springs and all they had to do was a cc plates and they were fine:nice:

You could get a few months off those struts/shocks... they'll just wear a lot faster.

As far as the springs go... I think you can use the SuperSports but... if your cobra is heavier than a GT, expect a lower stance. But the SS are a pretty stiff spring. Race are about the same except I think they are stiffer in the rear. I used to know a guy that works for H&R (he's on another board), I'll have to see if I can find his email address.

ok so i found where i can order eibach's for the cobra with the irs but it doesnt say how much of a drop you get with the prokit compared to the sportline. how hard is it to install these springs?
Eibach Pro Kit springs- 1.5" drop
Eibach Sportlines- 1.8-2.0" drop depending on if your car is a coupe or vert.
A spring install is a straight forward install and you don't need a spring
compressor either.
The H&R Supersports would be my choice. :nice:

but with a spring that drops as much as the supersports i would have to get the cc plates wouldnt i? and i dont have enough money for them. well i might be able to afford them if i dont have to spend money on installation and can do it myself. i would get the ford c-springs cuz they are a lot cheaper and they fit all 79-04 mustangs but i'm guessing that doesnt count my cobra.

would the c-springs work?

C spinrgs are nice but they only drop like 1" all the way around. Slightly less than 1" in the rear too. You might need CC plates with a 1.5" drop, but you might not. Every car is different. I don't care what anyone else will tell you.

I had the pro-kit on my old 98, and the CC was WAY off. So I needed plates. But more than likely if you stay at 1.5" or less than that you won't need CC plates.

If you go with H&R SS or sport, you'll definetely need CC plates. And you'll prolly scrape on every damn speed bump.

I would stick to the Eibach pro-kit or any other kit that than lowers 1.5" or less. In my opinion anything lower than that is too low.

And your stock struts/shocks might last one month, they might last 2 years. Just slap on the springs if your short on cash. That's what I'm doing.

ok. i think i'll go with the pro-kit cuz i just ordered my chin spoiler and my driveway has a really steep entrance from the street that some cars already have trouble on. so if i lowered it anymore i would bet it would nail the chin spoiler. plus then hopefully i dont need cc plates. thanks for all the help.
