Sputtering Mustang....need help

Hi,
I have a 2000 GT and ive had it for about a month and last week i was driving it and i pulled out of a parking lot and it started to spit and sputter a little and the entire way home it did this in every gear all over the rpm range. However it was worse in the lower range up to about 2000 rpms. When you get on it its not as bad in the upper but you can feel the power come and go. So i put new autolite plugs in it either platinum or double platinum not sure which, and a new fuel filter and those two things helped but it still did it. Then i bought some seafoam for the gas and put about a half tank in it to fill it up and the spitting and sputtering went away for a bit but then came back. I have no idea what it could be the service engine light isnt on. I tried unpluging the mass air flow but that didnt change anything didnt make the SEL come on. So im basically lost does anyone have any ideas? could it be coil packs, or tps thats going or is bad, mass airflow sensor bad? please let me know if you have any suggestions

Was any work done to the car before the car started to hesitate? If it isn't a spark problem and you have no codes, trying cleaning the IAC motor. Also replace your PCV valve and inspect for vacuum leaks around the manifold.

id go with the easiest one first and clean that bastid IAC valve out.. or just go ahead and replace it cause you'll probably have to anyway...mine kinda sputtered a little bit during idle when my iac when bad....never though the gears though...

sounds more like a leak in the intake system somewhere.... have a cold air intake on it? . is the MAF on?

Yes, if it keeps trying to stall you have a IAC or vacuum issue. Pop the hood and check any hoses that are attached to the throttle body/plenum, and clean that dam IAC!

I had this exact same problem on my 96 gt. It shudders at part throttle, is fine at idle, and jerks under full acceleration until about 3500 rpm. Sound about right? If those are the symptoms, then it is not an iac since it is only a factor at idle or very low throttle. I personally went through countless sets of plugs, wires, coil packs and even installed an aftermarket ignition booster. As was previously mentioned, your ignition setup does not use coil packs or spark plug wires. This leaves exactly 4 possibilities:

1. you have a temperamental spark plug that only doesn't work under these exact conditions...not likely.

2. you have a temperamental ignition coil that only doesn't work under these exact conditions...not likely.

3. you have a failing fuel pump, that only fails under these exact conditions...one again, not likely.

4. This is what it most likely is...you have a problem in your computer with the 24 Volt ignition signal that only shows up at certain rpms and certain levels of ignition advance. This is a specific problem with the ignition timing control circuit. To make a long story short, simply replace your ecu with one having the same 4 letter code on the casing.

I cannot stress enough that the 4 letter code is very important because if you have an aftermarket chip or you have used a programmer, you must use the same type of ecu for your tune to work.

Negative....as stated before. COP = Coil On Plug

Coil packs are clusters of coils packaged together in groups of 4 or 6 that are remotley located to the front of the engine and carry their current to the engine via spark plug wires.

Coil On Plug ignition are individual components that afix themselves directly to the spark plugs and don't use spark plug wires to carry the current.

Posted via Mobile Device you know what that rings a bell.. a while back my intake pipe came loose and as i was driving it would buck and sputter under acceleration or even if i was driving at a single speed it would sputter and about stall..and forget idle, that didnt want to happen either.. i freaked and seafoamed it, which worked about 10 minutes, then symptoms were back.. i shook the intake pipe and bam, problem was solved

ya well everybody has different termanology depending on where they are from but the idea is that everybody has pretty much agreed that its coils.
