A couple months ago my car started makin some squeaking noises. So I thought it was the belt so I bought a new one and changed it and everything was fine. Now its making the same noise again even though the belt is almost brand new. Is it the belt or could it be something else??

I recently had something similar occur, and turns out the noise was coming from the power steering pump; this offcourse doesn't necesarily mean you need a new p/s pump.

i've been dealing with the same problem for months...i've changed the belt at least 5/6 times, trying diff brands. then replaced all the pulleys (worked for a while) and its starting again... it's driving me crazy!!! i guess i'll get the p/s pump checked/replaced next, and see what happens...

Since I new to your problem, are you sure its coming from the engine bay? What are the symptoms?

it's def the belt...last summer it started sqeaking when you first started it (cold) and it would go away in a few mins...then it got worse and would last longer. i had the belt changed and it was good for about a mnth. then my mech changed it again thinking it may have been a manufacturers defect...came back in a few weeks...then he "clean up" all the pulleys (the car had been stored for a couple of years before i bought it, and he said maybe had some rust)...changed the belt...came back after 'bout a week...replaced the tensioner, changed the belt...lasted another few wks...then he found a tsb from ford on the issue and ordered/replaced all the pulleys (theres a new modified one with a higher lip on it so the belt cant move) changed the belt...came back again...i noticed it was an after market belt so i got one from ford and changed it...squeak is back after 100 miles. that is where i am now...what do you think?
thanx

Dude, I'm stumped now. After all that, you would think it was gonna stop. I had a sqeaking problem right after I got both SN-95's. But it wasn't from under the hood.
Sorry I wasn't much help.

I was just looking at the TSB's for that condition this morning. When it comes to the idler pully replacement, Ford tech's are required to replace the pully's attachment bolt as well. A clearance issue is mentioned.

TSB#'s 96-14-08 & 96-14-09
