Hey Travis, I am skipping the SS&D. I was going to use the Mothers 3 step on my car today, but only got through step 1. Essentially, my car has no wax on it now. The Directv guy showed up around 10am to install my new satallite dish, and it turns out I have too many trees in the way to have full HD access. That whole process ate up a few hours of my time, so I could not finish the car.

according to the commercials TW cable doesn't have as much HD capacity. Don't be a . Are you afraid you will cut off an appendage?

I have TW Cable an the HD stations are amazing. I could be wrong but I knew awhile back you could not receive local stations in HD from a dish, that may have changed by now.

After I got my new big screen TV, I decided to upgrade to HD service with DirecTV. After a phone call to them, they told me they would ship me the new HD receiver, and to call them to upgrade my dish when I received it. I was told I would get locals in HD, as well as HBO, ESPN, Discovery, and many others. That being said, I agreed to a new 2 year commitment, which at the time was no big deal, given that I was gong to get all the equipment for free, and would now be able to watch the Pats in HD. So I get the receiver in the mail, call DirecTV, and the lady on the phone did not seem to have a clue. I told her that I wanted to get somebody here to set up my new dish because my HD receiver had just arrived. I also told her that I had an order # from my first conversation that might help clear things up, but she just would not listen. Instead, she was trying to walk me through setting up the receiver, which at this time was still in the box. When I tried to explain things to her, she transferred me to a "higher level of tech support". At this point supper was ready, and I figured I was going to be on hold for another 20 minutes, so I hung up. After supper, I hooked up the receiver, assuming that was what I was supposed to do base on my previous conversation. Then called back again, and this time the lady told me I did not need a new dish, and that I would be all set with the current one. She activated the receiver, and I was good to go, except I did not have my locals in HD. Following that, I have placed at least 3 calls to DirecTV, trying to get NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX in HD. None of these calls are quick, as you have to go through an automated voice line before they put you on hold, and eventually get to speak to someone, who will then put you on hold again to get someone that can really resolve my problem. One night I was on the phone for well over an hour, while being on hold 95% of the time, and being cut off 3 times. Some of the techs said that I should have local HD, some said I should not have it. Then, on Thursday, I got this guy on the phone that was a "High Level Tech". He was very professional and knowledgeable on the phone compared to those that I had dealt with previously. He could not understand why I was not receiving locals in HD, and then he asked me what kind of dish I had. After I told him, he was in disbelief. It turns out that I did need a new dish (go figure). From what he told me, the HD receiver should have been hand delivered by an install tech along with a new HD dish upgrade. He apologized for the inconvenience, and said he would get a tech out here on Saturday (the 23rd) to set everything up. He also threw in a new HD DVR receiver at no charge for the trouble. Things are really looking good at this point, and I am very happy that the issue is finally resolved.

Saturday arrives, and the tech shows up around 9 or 10 in the morning. He then proceeds to tell me that he cannot install the new dish because it is so much heavier than the original, and that the wind could possibly take it and its stand because of the much larger surface area of the dish (my current dish sits on a 6' stand on the peak of my roof). Not only that, but in order to receive my locals in HD, I would have to cut down some trees, because the particular satellite that transmits locals in HD, as well as the new satellite that will transmit many new HD channels, sits much lower in the horizon. Even as of now, when it gets windy out, I lose my local stations because the trees have grown so much in the last 2 and 1/2 years. My other option would be to put an 8"x8"x10' post in my front yard, and dig a trench about 100' long to run the lines to my house. I would have to do this myself, as this is considered custom work.

Here are my thoughts on those 2 options. There are way too many massive trees that would have to be cut down to make this work. I am not going to give up all the shade my back yard sees in the afternoon for the sake of HD. There is also no way that I am going to stick an ugly a$$ post in my front yard.

What I am thinking now is that my best option is a Time Warner Cable package that will combine my TV, phone, and internet all in one bill, and save me about $600 a year. Here is the problem with that. Remember that DirecTV 2 year agreement? Well, it would cost me about $300 to get out of it ($12.50 a month for the remainder of the cancelled agreement). After talking to customer support yesterday afternoon, they will not let me out of the agreement because I activated the new receiver.

This is why I believe I should be released from the contract. DirecTV did not deliver to me the product that they promised. The #1 most important thing to me was getting my locals in HD. Now I understand that the trees in the way are not their fault, and the fact that I don't want a 10' pole with a satellite attached to it in my front yard is also not their fault. What is their fault is not being consistent with the answers that they gave me at any level of tech support. Also, if they would have sent the tech to hand deliver the receiver and the new dish like they should have, the problems would have been recognized immediately, the receiver would have never been activated, and no agreement would have been made. There is nobody to talk to about this on the phone that can authorize canceling the contract. I would instead have to write a letter to them disputing the fee. DirecTV’s customer service sucks, and it is too bad, because the have a great product.

damn its quiet in here. Beautiful day outside and I should be driving the stang but I had to cut some trees and brush. That gave me a killer headache so I took a nap with the dog. Good thing the dog is small and doesn't smell because she curled up next to my chest. Nothing like a dogs butt inches away from your face while you are sleeping .
