I already tried the wd-40 trick, but I'll try that one next nice day. A normal idle is 800, right? so wouldn't a higher idle have a lower vac reading anyway? ie 800 =18-20 in and 1000 =14-16 in? I really think the canistor or purge valve is f'ed and causing a problem w/ the idle. Had this cel light since I bought it about 3 years ago. Haynes manual says it could cause it.

It's about 1 mile after the turn off to my house.

I don't think you can make a correlation like that.
