stall kit

I was wondering the other day how low (RPM) of a stall kit is available for a C-4?? I was thinking about one for various reasons and I know that there's a 1500, but that would be to high for what i want, something around 1000-1200 maybee??

A stock stall is usually about 1200-1500 +- 100 rpm, a 2000 stall is slightly above a stock converter. If you dont want anything to crazy, you could have your fins bent for a higher stall, but its a guess when they do that.

i geuss I'm trying to figure some ways that I can help decrease the RPM drop when i put it in drive. I like the sound of it at about 700 idling, but it drops way to low to be practical, soo I'll probally tune it around 1100 at idle to get the right spot in gear. it just seems like a high idle at that.

How much RPM drop are you getting...this generally doesn't have much to do with the stall converter in the tranny it is usually poor carb tuning and timing in my experience that cause large drops in RPM when putting it into drive.

If you want the car to idle at 700 RPM when in drive you can just turn your idle screw in a little bit

crane energizer, advertized duration of 266 I and E with a lift of .469 I and E.

although, the issue was with the old cam also, and I'll probally end up with nicks advice and just turn uup the idle screw a bit.. that seems the best route.

but im geussing that its around a 400 rpm drop.

Hopefully it doesnt raise the idle too much in park or nuetral.That cam isnt that big to be dropping a lot of rpm in gear.

Agree with that 10000%. Almost ALWAYS the case.Cams not really that big.

400 RPM drop is alot. Are you sure the carb is tuned properly? My 410 doesn't have a 400 RPM drop If you turn in the idel too much you will run the risk of dragging yourself through the lights when your foots on the brake.

What RPM does it idle at when in park?
What RPM does it idle at when in drive?
When you put it back into park after driving it is the RPM higher or lower (or the same) as the RPM it was at when it started in park?
Is your choke properly connected and working properly?

Have you ever done (or had someone do for you) changing the springs in the dizzy for a faster advance? What RPM do you get total advance at now?

i'll try and anser most of these...


about 700-800 park
down to 400-ish in drive
yes it comes back up to the previous RPM
manual choke is working fine



and im a bit stuck with your last one. to my knoweldge the spring hasn't been changed.

Does the car run good or does it stall on you? Is this purely that you want it to idle faster in drive? If so just turn your idle screw a little bit, I would not turn it in enough that you idle at 700 in drive though. You're fuel economy will drop.

My question about the spring can be answer with a timing light.
Start your car, leave it in park, put on the timing light and note how many degrees it is set at. Then slowly accelerate and report back at what RPM the motor stops advancing on the timing.
