Stalling......Diagnosis?

Hello all, first time poster with some car trouble.

2000 GT 4.6 SOHC

About 2 weeks ago my car didn't start on the first try. I tried again gave it osme gas andi t was fine. This went on for a week. The next week when I try to start it it stalls. After more starting and revs it idles around 800. The last two days it will stall any time its in neutral or the clutch is engaged. As long as I am in gear or with my foot on the gas it is fine.

I thought it was a breathing issue, so I replaced the air filter and cleaned the Mass Air Sensor with some electrical component cleaner but it still stalls when in neutral or with the clutch engaged.

The first week it was doing this, it steadily got worse to the point that it would take driving it for about 5 minutes before the idle seemed to correct itself. Now, after driving it for a bit it will either stall or barely idle around 500. I am taknig it to my mechanic tomorrow but was hoping someone here would have knowledge of what is wrong before I go. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need a new IAC valve, it is $95 from the Ford parts counter at your local Ford dealership. You might be able to get by for a while by just cleaning out the existing IAC valve with carb cleaner.

Cleaning it seems to have done the trick.
