I have an auto 2000 GT, every once in a while when I turn it on and put it in reverse, the car will rev really high (to about 3000 RPM) I have no idea why it does this, and it does not happen all the time? Anybody have a similar experience that could shed some light on this for me?

Check your tranny fluid, how many miles on the fluid?

Fluid and filter need to be changed. Do not forget to drain the torque converter. Use Motorcraft fluid from the Ford parts counter

Let your car warm up first. Then do like they said with changing your filter and fluid. I prefer Mobile 1 full synthetic. You see how long your Ford fluid lasted.

I was having the same problem. Changed fluids on the torque converter, transmission, problem was still there...

Changed the IAC, S.O.B. the original IAC was dark as hell and was stuck. Obviously it was failing.

Car is now operating properly.
