I am in the process of restoring a 66 and encountered a problem. my center steering link hits my starter and pushes it up towards the engine, this has caused the top of my starter to crack.

im pretty sure that it is the stock starter, so could this be some alignment issue?

It looks like a stock Ford starter. I see no problem with it.

An alignment is not going to help you as the height of the centerlink is determined by the pitman and idler arm (which both of those are pretty much fixed.) Normally there is at least a 1/2" of clearance.

Perhaps someone installed the wrong parts OR the correct parts the wrong way.

I suppose that another idea is that the whole engine might be setting too low. Do you have stock, unmodified engine mounts?
