I will be helping my friend change the starter on his 86 SVO this week end, is there anything we need to know before hand? is it easy?

I would say not too hard, it's something like 3 bolts + ground wire, but it isn't an easy area to get to..

disconnect the battery......before i put new starters on at work i always mark a spot in the flywheel and turn it all the way around once checking all the teeth. no need to throw on a new starter on a damaged flywheel.

Did it once on my '93 2.3, It was simple, My Bro and I did it, him working from the top, me on the bottom, took us like 15 mins. THe bolts on the top can be a pain to get to but its not all bad.

i took mine off in a min universal joint sockets are the way to go.

a good thing to do,but not nessary, is replace the starter solinoid at the same time, a decent one is about $15.00 at any part store
