I have a 89 vert ...sometime when I go to start it ..it sounds like the starter spines but it's not ingauging . Then I wait a minute and turn the key and it spins over and cranks.

I have new OEM cables and OEM solenoid.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like it's time for a new or rebuilt starter. This is not a problem that gets better over time. If you still have the old style, stock starter, think about upgrading to the new "mini" starter. You just need to make a little wiring modification.

Not to bad, I usually just use a bunch of extensions and wobblys for the top bolt, then just go under the car for the bottom bolt and it comes right out.

I 2nd replacing the starter but dissagree with getting the "mini" starter. What would be the point? It does'nt sound the like you need the extra room or the extra torque you gain from the "mini" starter. Take the money you save and buy something usefull. I'm not saying it a bad upgrade but if you don't need it whats the point?

The "mini" starter pulls its power from from the battery side of the starter relay. Only the power to the starter solenoid is on the switched side of the relay. Low current going through the relay reduces its chance of failure.

The smaller starter has greater clearance from the headers. Less heat goes into the starter increasing its life.

The "mini" starter draws fewer amps.

The "mini" starter weighs nearly 10 lbs. less.

What's the price difference? $20?
