Starting my 69 mach 1 without a key...

Unfortunately, doing it the easy way runs the battery to death. You usually don't find out untill you hit the brakes for a stoplight and the brake lights come on, demanding more power than available, killing the engine. Then you have to push the car out of traffic and get another battery or tow truck.

You need more than a screwdriver, you also need to hook up a jumper wire.

It's darn easy to do without cutting any wires, but I don't want to post it in a public forum. PM me if you havn't figured it out already.

Hehe, I knew I would get some flack for asking "how do I steal a classic mustang?" Anywho, the locksmith idea would be pretty good, we had that idea, but we'd reather not have to tow the car to the locksmith just to find out it doesn't have gas in it and we have to tow it back...hence we'd like to get it started first.

He is planing on ordering a new ignition cylinder, but I don't know if he's found one yet, and it will be a few days after he orders it, and since we have nothing better to do tonight, we might as well get it started.

I'll send a couple a PMs out to see if someone can point us in the right direction

Whoever said they waited pics, I'll snap a few and post them up once we get it started

I guess having the tow truck pull into a gas station on route to the locksmith sounds retarded. Besides, most locksmiths are mobile anyway as it gets pretty expensive having apartments and hotels towed to the locksmith.

i agree. the locksmith will come to you.

He has ordered a new locks and ignition, but we didn't wait till it got here to go for a ride :D

We ended up hotwiring it, the car had an aftermarket MSD cdi box/coils/dizzy so that was pretty easy to hotwire, and we turned the starter as per Nitrous_Eater's instuctions (Thanks for the help!)

I didn't get a chance to get pictures either time but it looked just like this but it didn't have the red stripe...

As far as my thoughts on the car, it was pretty cool in general, got a lot of looks and was a pretty stylish car to be driving around in. I expected the car to handle like crap, but that would be an understatment. The steering had like 3" of play in it and the car felt like a big heavy 4000+lb boat. The car had massive torque, but had a bit of trouble putting it all down on 265 street tires, it probably would have run a high 12 with traction IMO(had a bigger carb, higher gearing, and ignition) but as it sits it renders 1st gear almost useless and would probably run somewhere in the 13s. The car lost to a 350whp dsm, even from a roll the 428 was no match for the big turbos powerband, we didn't even bother racing the rx7(400+whp, ligher than the dsm) Still not too bad for a 36 year old car, if it wasn't for the atrocious handling, I wouldn't mind rocking one just for the cool factor.

I'm glad my instructions worked. Been a while since I had to start a car without the keys.

This was a 1 time thing, please do not PM me for instructions on how to do this...I will not give them to you unless you can provide proof that the car belongs to you.

All I have to say is, if I found out my son's friend was getting information on how to hot wire my collector car from guys on the internet (or anywhere for that matter) I'd have that car locked down fast.

All I can say is, if you think he might then he will. Not if, but when. :rlaugh: :rlaugh:   :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

you just helped a minor wire his dads mach and drag rice his friends ricers, lol :nono:

Haha, you guys are funny, can't say I didn't see it coming though. We would have figured out how to do it anyway, though, the only thing that helped was knowing there was a relay for the starter on the firewall, and after all, if nothing else we could have push started it, it scared me how easy it was to get that thing running. And no, we aren't some kids trying to go out racing in daddy's car, so :Zip2: we just raced the dsm because it was there, we did it on an open deserted segment of road at 1 am, but believe whatever you want.

Its just like the rx7 forums here too, everyone goes "The -7- can't lose!!!" then when someone says they get beaten, then it was just because the guy in the rx7 can't drive :rlaugh:
