Starting problems

When I go to turn the engine on sometimes it doesn't turn on right away. It sits there and cranks and cranks then I have to stop wait a second then I turn the key and it fires right up. What is causing it to do that? It gets emberassing when people are around and this crap happens. I just did a tune up (spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter) on the car and seems the problem still persist. So how can I get it to fire up the first time right away like it should? Thanks.

You more than llikely have a bad fuel pump, It is allowing the system to loose pressure and therefore you basically have to let it prime it self back up to pressure. Try cycling the key on and off a couple time before you start the car. Listen for the pump to prime and quit the do the same again. After you do that a couple time it should fire right up without any problems. That will save you some embarassment of teh starter turning over and over with no VROOOOOOOM.

Thanks. How hard is it to change the pump on our cars? My cars is mostly stock but I was planning on doing some modifications later on(next year or so) so is it ok to put in 190lh pump now?? Will that be pumping extra fuel I don't need into the engine? Thanks.

my car is currently stock and i am running a 190f/p with no problems. i think something else is wrong with mine, cause sometimes when i start it, it shuts off, and then it'll start right up again but it is very embarrassing.

Changing the pump out is not hard at all, just be sure that the tank is empty or as close to it as possible, and you have the right tools and such for the job i.e. those little fuel/ac disconnect tools are required to disconnect the fuel lines. You can get those at about any parts store for under $20. Also have a case of beer on hand to offer your assistant. You will need a friend to help raise and lower the tank and support the tank while you strap and unstrap it.
