Hello,

Just purchased my 07 GT yesterday, and I already noticed that when the volume is turned all the way down on the head unit, there is very noticeable static (kind of sounds like an idling diesel truck). It makes no difference if the engine is on or off.

Has anyone else noticed this? It's not as noticeable with the radio turned up, but I know this is not normal and it is pretty annoying. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

You first need to find out if the noise is coming from the woofers in the door, or the 5x7 speakers located just above the woofers as well as in the rear decklid. The woofers run off an amp, whereas the rest of the speakers run straight from the deck. If its only coming from the woofers, you probably have a issue with the factory amp. If its only comming from the 5x7s, then your problem is most likely with the radio. Also, is the noise there when you are listening to cd's as well as the radio?

all the speakers are driven off of amps in the 197's Shaker system.

No, if were talking about the same thing, the enclosure in the trunk and the amp rack hold 4 amps and there are 2 more amps under the left side of the dash.

That would be the Mach 1000 system from the pre-2005 vehicles. The shaker 500 has no subs in the trunk, only in the doors. The shaker 1000 has subs in the trunk as well as the doors, but only has two amps I believe...

Ok I was referring to the Shaker 1000 which is what I have and it DOES have 4 amps in the trunk and 2 under the dash for a total of 6. The door speakers and rear speakers ARE amplified by the amps under the dash

I believe it's coming from the woofers in the doors. And yes, it happens both with the cd and the radio.

Well thanks for the info. At least I know it is likely coming from the amp, so I'll have a little info to provide to the service dept.

Nope. The doors and rears are powered by the head unit. The amps in the kickpanel juice the door woofers, and the rear subs are driven by the 4 amps mounted there (if you have the 1000).
