Steeda Pulleys installed and oil is now flying everywhere

Hello everyone, i just thought i'd inquire if any of you had such a problem. I went to have steeda pulleys put on my car since many of my friends had had them put on and love them, so neglectingly knowing the problems of charing issues etc., i went to have them installed at a local mustang performance shop for the main reason that they were brand new steeda pullies that my friend gave me for my b-day. Well anyways, went to have them installed today and I thought the install went well or .... so i thought.

I ride around town in the car for a while and then head back home. I lift my hood to listen for any noises or changes in the car like i do for any newly added mod and I see in horror oil thrown everywhere all over the insulation of my hood, valve covers, everywhere. I look at the newly installed steeda pulleys and sure enough their the culprit. It looks to me that all of them are leaking, but then again it may just be the crankshaft pulley leaking and it is throwing oil everywhere else. But anyways, anyone else have this problem? Easy fix? or should I just take it back to the shop and put tell them to put my stock pulleys back on? Any advice would be helpful.
 
There is a keyway slot in the crank pulley. It will need sealed with some pcv sealant. If you don't get it sealed good, it will leak oil. Also, if the crank pulley wasn't installed and torque down correct, you can run into the same problem.
 
Sounds to me like they didn't use any RTV in the key way. Either that or your crank seal might have gotten torn or it was dry rotted from the get go. I've had mine on for almost a month and no leaks(knock on wood). I'd definately take it back and have them fix it. I wouldn't pay a dime either.
 
Yep, RTV in the key...Who friggin did this install? They obviously have never installed them on a 4.6 before. :bang: I'd take it back and give them another chance to get it right or nicely offer to take it to someone who knows how to install these properly and he and that shop owner can work out the billing...

Man That sucks. It sure seems like that is how the majority of these stories about paying to have work done end up. With a screwed up JOB. If it isnt the FORD dealer F**kin ya then its the shadetree mechanic at the local speed shop. Makes a man want to go out and beat someones A**. Cant anyone do a quality job at a reasonable rate anymore?

couldn't have been said better....

make sure you use the high temp RED gasket maker.

actually, I didnt think i put enough on, but no oil leaks so far, so I'm good for now. Old crank is going on soon enough when the blower comes, so i guess it doesnt really matter anyway.
 
I'll have to go along with the RTV gang.

I've had mine on since early this year and no leaks. But then I watched the mechanic (a friend of mine) do the install at his shop.

I gained about 6 rwhp/6rwtq with mine.

How long did you drive it around? If it was a short amount of time I’m not so sure the lack of RTV in the key-way would sling THAT much oil like you have described. I suppose it’s possible but one other thing I would be checking for is the block behind the pulley. It is very easy if you don’t know what you are doing to crank the puller bolts all the way through the stock pulley and crack or punch a hole in the block. Bad thought I know... I centainly hope some idiot didn't do that but I would inspect for damage there if it's slinging that much oil.
