Steel vs Aluminum UD Pulley...

Does anyone have a preference? this will be one of my next couple mods, so just wondering.

I would only buy/run aluminum pulleys. They will not rust like the steel ones... in aheavy pig like mine I'll also take every pound or two I can drop.

Save as much rotating mass as possible. Aluminum all the way.

Steel... I drive my car a lot so I do not want to worry about the aluminums wearing on me... my steel ones show quite a bit of wear on the WP pulley after 65k miles...

Aluminum is more attractive and like some said ... less weight

Steel is durable and the choice of OEM

I myself am more into go than show
so
I went for the max gain for the min buck spent ... Steel

Hey ... When I get that great feeling of being pushed back in the seat

I can't see ANYTHING under the hood

As I see it ... Both options have something good to offer

Hmmm... I've had mine on since 1999 and they look as good as they did when I bought them.

Grady, I would suspect that the OEM use steel because its likely cheaper than aluminum to make.

Aluminum pulleys without a doubt if you can spare the extra dough.

If we can use aluminum heads, intakes, driveshafts, etc., I think we can use some pullies.

I had a belt slip on my aluminum water pump pulley, and it tore it up. After that, the pulley would sing. I just put the stock water pump pulley back on. I think the weight difference is negligible. Just get what you can afford. Arguing over the weight and rotating mass of the pullies is kind of ricerish in my book. I would say it's totally neglible. The aluminum ones look better. If you want your engine to look nice, which is understandable, spend the extra money.

I have aluminums on for a while with only 3 bolts on the water pump and still no warping and my belt is tight. I weighted all the stock pullies and the aluminum ASP pullies and wrote down all the weights but I am no where near my house.

OMG please spare me...lets say they save $.03 on each GT they built, and lets go further out on a limb and say they build 250,000...so for $7500 they could rate the car 10hp higher (flywheel obviously)...it would be in their best interest to sell one extra car and make up the difference...

Aluminum pullies might add up to .01 HP at the flywheel. They are only 10hp because they are underdrive pullies. 3 cents is a lot of money when you are building a production car. Every little piece adds up fast.

I assure you ... Bean Counters ... They don't think that way

Like was said ... they find EVERY way to cut back

After doing that as many ways as they can on each car ......
That practice will add up to a significant amount of money saved

I'm with you
they need to focus on things that make more horsepower :Word:
