steering wheel shakes while driving

Hey guys i have noticed when driving i feel the steering wheel shaking, its not a lot but it noticable, could it be that i need and alignment, do most of you have this problem? is it normal?

Definitely have the tires rotated and balanced, especially if you haven't done it in a while. Also, have you had to brake hard lately? If so, have the shop verify that you haven't created a flat spot on the tire. Does it shake while braking? That could be a warped rotor.

If it only does it when braking probably rotor.

If it does it around 55 mph probably wheel balance.

If it increses as speed increases probably bad rim.

Never hurts to get balance and alignment regardless, every six months is ideal.

If the tire is warped or worn unevenly then a balance or alignment won't help. Usually once you feel the vibration it is too late. You have to replace the tires or live with it until you wear them out.

Not to argue but HOW will this cause a vibration?

Slow speed steering wheel wobble probably warpped rotor
45+ wobble probably wheel/tire balance issues
All speed wobble/vibration getting worse with speed probably tire belt issue

well imporperly torqued lugs can cause a rotor to warp. wont cause the vibration at speed like the complaint says. have the tires balanced on a road force balancer, and make sure that they use a pin plate to attach the wheel to the balancer. what that means is a set of pegs hold the wheel again the balancer through the lug holes instead of using a cone in the center. the pin plate on a road force balancer is the best balance possible. you can check here http://www.gsp9700.com/ to find the location of a shop that has the Hunter GSP9700 balancer. that is hands downthe best balancer currently on the market. also see if that location has the smart weight software, that helps use les weights. they can also use sticky weights, that can be hid behind the spokes if you dont want to see them.

also something not considered is a driveshaft vibration. its not common, but it could be a culprit.
