Steering whine

. along with a vibration in the steering wheel. whine gets louder as I accelerate. One shop says it is the rack.

Whine from old ford power steering, especially in mustangs is pretty common. You could be chasing that for a while. Shops are just throwing stuff out there so you will pay them to change it.
