Sterios and Amp questions???

ok, so i have a JVC head unit (it was free lol), alpine 3.5's in the dash, Sony Xplode 2 or 3 ways in the doors and GARBAGE kenwood 2 ways in the rear (notchback). needless to say... I HAVE NO BASS. once i start to get some, it distorts and sounds like garbage and pops. will an amp help? do i absolutley positively have to go to subs if i want some decent bass? Im going to put soem pioneer 4 ways in place of the kenwoods, maybe even those 5 ways they make. then later ill get a better headunit. Any help is apreciated, im radio ILLITERATE. i mean i wiring my radio and speakers was cake, but all the terms and which is best when im kinda lost in. so talk slowly! lol

u need etleast one sub or u aint gonna get much of nothing i mean i know some ppl that have ok sounding systems without a sub but same thing happens once the volume goes so high it desorts if i was u i would buy a amp and sub u can get a small sub and box tht dont weigh much like a 10 inch and box that weight like 40 pounds all together.

weight is the biggest issue. because i HATED the stance of my car witht the drag setup, but then it hit me one day... TAKE OUT THE SPARE. now the car looks great. but the box is going to basically replace the spare and weigh alot. but i was also going to ditch my rear seat.

yeah you will have to have a small sub to get any good bass but the boxes do weigh alot.just try to find a good quality sub that requires the least amount of airspace therefore giving you a smaller box,in turn-less weight.you could prolly get all the specs for different subs on the crutchfield website.

More power will give better bass response but you need speakers that can take it. The 3.5" speakers need to be isolated from low frequencies. Generally the others will take it but at high volumes they will sound distorted. Usually full range speakers need a crossover cutoff at 60-80hz to keep the sound clean. You could get an amp and try it out for yourself.

so get an amp and have someone tinker withit ( a friend of mine knos his *****) so can a sub wait then? i mean i dont need an incredible system, just a little more bass becasue it is weak. like my friends stock 2000 accord hits harder than mine.

I had a 10" Infinity Kappa in a .6 sealed box. Was small and light (maybe 20#s). With a 360 watt JBL amp, sounded better in my hatch then my friend with a GT's 2 10's.
Or a bazooka tube with a self-contained amp would be an easy install and add some bass.

The newer cars have better bass because of the way they are designed. Having a rear package tray with speakers mounted allows the trunk to act like a box for the speakers. Some cars use 6x9's there and hit almost like subs. My pathfinder has a bose system, and the front doors have small subwoofer enclosures.
