Sticky moldings

My side moldings on the door are sticky. Never seen this before and it’s just in the door moldings. Doesn’t appear to be residue from tape or anything and it’s on both doors. Anyone ever run into this? Could this just be age? Wondering if there is a way to get the sticky off.

I wonder if the previous owner replaced and painted them and didn’t reduce the paint properly?

If they were repainted, it was a while ago.. paint condition looks the same as the rest. Just tacky. Been doing a little research and found this;
