I have a concern about tuning my 06 GT. I bought this car out of state, used (10,686 miles) From what i've been reading, if the car had a tune on it and wasn't returned to stock it would be bad to try to load a tune on it?? Have i got this right?? Is there a way to tell if the computer has the stock tune??

If you floor it and you feel some hesitation, it has the stock tune on it most likely. These cars have horrible throttle lag from the factory.

There is probably a technical way to do it, but that's the easiest way

when you plug in tuner the first thing it does is reads/saves your factory tune before it does anything else(or at least the predator does) so if you have any tune other than the factory, it may cause problems or may not even recognize the tune that was already in the car. if you think it might be tuned, take it to a reputable shop and have them check it first.

Tuner (afaik) has no way of telling a "stock" tune from a custom tune.. The first time you use your tuner it will down load what ever tune in is the car's computer and treat it as if it was the stock tune... I lost my "stock" tune a long time ago... my tuner died and when I got my replacement one it simply downloaded/saved the "custom" tune in the car's computer just like as if it was "stock"...

For the OP, it shouldn't be problem to load a tune onto your car if it already had a tune on it... what it does mean is someones has a tuner that's "locked" and can't be used on another car...

As far as having the local dealership try and determine if the tune is stock or not... They don't have that ability... they can tell the last time the computer was reset bu they can't tell if the tune has actually been changed... they would need to send the computer back to Ford for that... Dealership could probably flash your car back to "stock" for $$$...
