Still Can't get Romec Balancer on??

Well after having this balancer for about 2 weeks i finally dont know what i should do? I cant even get it half way on the crankshaft to even start the Bolt. So i rented the installer at AutoZone and couldnt even figure that thing out. So now im Stuck and i much rather get this thing on before i put the engine back in. It's also right before the key way mark, Wont budge.
So my question is i guess what can i do? Is anyone familar with the installer kit and can walk me through how to use it? Or any other way or helpful tips....thanks
 
Well i figured out the tool to install it, but now my question is that nut u have to turn to get the balancer on is so far in the hole of the balancer how do u turn it? I doubt they have a socket that Deep To turn it????
 
BE CAREFUL!!! If you don't get it on far enough before you start sucking it in with the bolt, you can strip the threads in the crank!!! There is someone here that did this. The easiest way we've found to do it is to put the balancer on an electric portable "stove" Basically we have a thing that looks like a portable individual "burner" from an electric stove. We put the balancer on there for a whiel, then grab it with a pair of gloves and put it on... we've done 3 this way and didn't even break a sweat. Your balancer isn't hitting the water pump pulley is it? I wasn't watching and when I removed mine I bent my pulley as it was hitting it and I didn't notice it. Hope that helps.
 
Go to the hardware store and get a longer bolt that threads into the center. It will suck it on. I did this myself too. Went to the hardware store, used a longer bolt, and no problem.
 
i just did mine last night at the hobby shop on base(air force) and we didnt have a portable oven so i just used a propane torch and heated the romac for a little while, till the metal started to turn a little yellow and my slid on like a hot butter knife. I even was playing with it for a minute tring to make the key line up. just my 2cents, i would take it off and try it that way

Romac makes them damn tight on purpose. I just greased mine up good, and used a installer tool. I found that the majority of effort was being wasted on friction in the installer, because it wasn't really well lubricated. I put a whole bunch of assembly lube on it and then it pulled the Romac right on. I didn't want to do the torch thing myself, because there's rubber inside of the balancer... and I don't want to find out the hard way what temperature will cause it to melt.

Well i kept using a piece of wood and it wont go on any further, You could even hear thats its allthe way on, But its alot thicker then the factory one, which means it doesnt line up with the water pump pulley so tomarrow im going to barrow the tool that takes it off and im going to see what the prob is. I'll keep u guys posted though because this is the last thing i really need to do before i put the engine back in.
 
Interesting... I found that mine sticks out a little too far now too... I know its all the way in also... The belts don't seem to be affected though... They just don't look right (might be my emagination too)

I found what helped me out was that after i tryed to put it on I took it off and there was some burs on it... I took a file and light took off all the burrs and then i put oil all over it and then it tighted on... IT was a little tight going on but not like it was before i did that.
 
How long and at what temp did you heat it??? My Romacs been on and off like 3 times....set your oven to 300 deq....pop that mother in there...when the preheat buzzer goes off, grab the mitts and go....should slide on like butter....watch out wailing on it...you may bung up the woodruff key....first time i went to 450 for like 5 minutes...I found it takes way less heat tho...even 250 deg for 20 minutes should go..

remember to put some RTV around that key...it keeps any oil from coming by the key..

Balancer have an "interference fit"...hence the fight...I have always used heat and it slides on slick....
 
Well once i get the tool to pull it off im going to see what was going on or if anything is screwed up, i cant believe its taking my so damn long to get a balancer on, It sure is a tight fit though thats for sure Well im going to try to get it back on tomarrow and maybe even drop the engine in:)
 
Well today i Got the tool the pull of the balancer and i noticed that when i was using a block a wood and pounded it on the key way Wasnt matched up Perfectly! Couldnt beleive it so they key way on the balancer was messed up but no prob used a file and cleaned it up looks great......but then i look at the key way on the crank and it doesnt look like its suppost to i don't think, so later tonight im having my mechanic come over and see if or what i can do, If he says its alright to still put it on ill use the installer and have him install it this time. Ill let ya guys know later tonight if it will work or if i gotta do something about my key way being F'ed up on the crankshaft.
