Im trying to decide between say a used supercharger, and a home made twin turbo kit. I realize the turbo could possible put out more power at a lower rpm? Also, does anyone know what cars to get a junkyard turbos from. I was a turbomustangs.com and they just say....go search stuff, but theres nothing. damn. The only reason im leaning away from a supercharger is someone told me that a supercharger doesent make rated boost untill 6000 rpms. I guess at around say, 4,000 your only making like 5lbs boost...is this true, and what shall i do? thanks!

YEs thats how centrifugal superchargers work. They make boost with RPM. While a turbo can make full boost below 3k rpms. I would not do a twin. Go with a single, as its much less involved. I dont think you searched very hard over there, cause theres tons of info. You really need to understand how/why a turbo works. Like do you know what a wastegate does? and where it should go? Things like that you really need to know, before you even design a plan for the project.

If you want FULL boost real low in RPMS, get a kennebell. They see full bosst at 2k rpms. But its still belt driven, but not as hard on the crank bearings as the centrifugal's.

Why not just buy a turbo new? You can get an SC61 for around 725 new from precision. Thats a great size for a single, should see full boost by around 2700rpm(head and camed car), and will support up to 680 hp. Otherwise watch the classifieds, i see alot of t66's and t64e's pop up for good prices. Just make sure you understand the a/r and what size you want.

If you lived closer to me, you could check out my settup so you would have an idea of what you need to make, i live 15 mins north of boston.

There have been guys using the Powerstroke( Ford truck) and Holset ( dodge truck) turbos will success. So they do work and have been proven.

You should try searching, like mentioned... There is tons of usefull info between the threads, pics, and links, way more then enough. Dont be so lazy, make use of the internet!

Seriously, I would not consider a DIY turbo system unless you either A: really know your turbos and thermodynamics or B: have friends who know what they're doing.

They are plenty of proven kits out there, I would just stick with one of those. The PTK budget kit's are pretty cheap.

As for the blower, it would be a less involved install, and if you want lots of low end torque, the KB's are good for that.

I bought one new and am having a few issues (because I am green at this whole modding thing.) If you need help installing one, make for sure you have somebody knowledgeable close by. The main system is not that bad, it is all the little things like where to install the oil filter now stuff. I will be real happy I went Turbo when I see the first pair of Altezza lights in front of me.
