Stock '95 GT vs. Stock RX-8

OK guys you've done good so far.. i have a '95 Mustang GT pretty much stock.. and one of my friends has a new RX-8.. i was wondering which would win in an all out race.. if it helps any i have a 5-speed and his is the manual-o-matic which you can change from manual to auto.. so if anyone has raced or knows for a fact i could kick his ass.. i would like to know .... thanx

My brother in law has a 2004 RX-8 and I know its pretty quick. I believe it comes stock with 250HP... I have not raced him since he is not into that... but I would gather that it could be a stock 95GT..

I am thinking it would be close and that you probably have a chance. You said your stock, so I'm guessing your suspension is aging, rear gear? may be too low, and a few other important factors may hinder you. If it's a short race, you might be fine, but I would be doubtful at anything other than the usual stoplight race. His car is new and yours may not be 100%.

From experience against an RX-8:

I've crossed a couple of them with a 2003 Mach 1 (obviously a different beast compared to a stock 95 GT) and it was ugly from the moment I hit the gas. I knew I had the RX-8 beat on torque alone, but with the DOHC motor, I was able to pull away very consistently at any RPM in any gear. The exhaust note made one guy a bit timid and just plain ticked off the other guy (he just bought it that week). The RX-8's I encountered were not modified at all.

FYI: I think that magazines list the RX-8 in the 0-60 somewhere around 5.8 - 6.5 seconds (not that this statistic really matters). My RSX has the sport-shift thing and it is nice to have since you can decide exactly where the tranny shifts AND choose any gear you want at any time. The computer simply keeps you from going into a gear that will take you over redline and allows you to go to a higher rpm than the standard automatic would allow. I sure do miss the torque, however, compared to my stang.

OK, I'll change my statement: If it were me, I'd resign myself to thinking I may get beat, but hey.....let's find out.

Hey... The rx8 with the automatic has only 197 Hp, while the rx8 with the 6 speed has 238 horsepower. I think if he has the auto, you will be fine.

He is right the autos came with alot less power than the manuals. You should kill him.

Just Dont race him from a roll. They are really fast beleive it or not from a roll. I couldnt pull on one all the way till 140 in an XJR jaguar. And the jag will beat my 95 cobra with the mods listed in my sig. by buslengths from a roll. So race him from a stop

Yeah be careless. They are very responsive cars and I think they redline somewhere around 9000. Always race from a dead stop.

Yes redline is 9,000. Red ink the one you raced had to be the 6 speed because I think the autos pull off the quarter mile somewhere around 16.xx .
