Wow this was a good thread to read i was just going to post something on how bad the stock manifolds were but now i guess i got my answer!! so im keeping mine on for now!
Yeah Ray - I think I touched on it above - the long tubes should help even the stocker on the bottom end; not sure how much they'd help on the top. MM&FF had a recent test where there was essentially no difference at peak between shorties, equal-shorties, and 2 different size long tubes (1.5" and 1 5/8). But the long tubes were WAY stronger below 3000 (as much as 30-35 ft-lbs) compared to the shorties. Problem was the test mule was a modded 347 - don't know how transferable that outcome is to mild 302's.

but my exhaust is rusted,, what happens if i leave my header intack and get a 2.5 cat open h-pipe, with a 3chamber flowmaster cat back?
also can i buy a catback minus the end pipes (<$) ?? as my stock SS look good?
