How would it hurt? The important question with exhaust and hp is; "Where do you want your hp/tq?" A freer flowing exhaust will not take away low end torque, it will simply move it up in the rpms. How this affects actual performance depends on many more factors, e.g. gears, race length, driver skill, traction, etc..

well, ok, CAI and Pulleys, that's it... running 14.2, want to be in the 13s w/ this exhaust setup... I want something quiet enough not to attract cop attention, but loud at higher RPMs. I would like to keep my torque, I'm making 255RWTQ at 2200RPM.

-anyone know of a cheap place to buy Magnaflow Muffler 11235? $60 is the cheapest I've seen...

I have read posts from various boards about people saying that with only a few light mods, (pulleys, K&N, afpr, etc) the first major mod they did was a complete (headers to tailpipe) exhaust system.

They complained about a loss of low to mid range torque which is really felt on the street.

I have seen the same people post several days or weeks later that they went to the strip and had better mph with the larger exhaust.

well, ok, thnx... that gives me a better idea of what I'd like to do... it's looking like 2.5" pipe w/ 2.25" back for me... my car is my daily driver, so I want that low end torque... that's what makes me never regret that killer deal on the 300zx I had

viperos, I would strongly recommend against the 2.25" piping. It will only limit you in the future, and will not kill your low end. Take it from me, I have done twice. You will love the response you get with your new exhaust. Take a poll; there is virtually no one here that has done a 2.5" midpipe and 2.25" back. I guarantee it will be a waste.
