Ant, don't get discouraged. It usually takes MONTHS to find a good car for a reasonable price. Remember, these cars are 20 years old at best, and there are so many that have been abused and neglected that you have to weed through a lot to find a decent one. Frankly, those of us who own decent ones are usually holding onto them, or we want good money because we know what we have. It is in vogue right now for people to come on here and say Foxes are junk that will never be worth anything, but when you actually want to find one...

The days of opening the paper, finding a clean, cheap Fox are pretty much over. I know the internet makes it seem like they are all over the place and people are constantly buying 50K mile ones for 3K, but that just isn't reality. The truth is that the 50K mile car is actually a 150K car, 3K is actually 3900, and it also needed "just" 2500 in repairs to make it drivable. Take what you read with a grain of salt, and remember that a picture of a car NEVER compares to what you see in person.

From experience, you are better off paying a slight premium to buy a nicer car than saving a grand or two to buy someone else's problem.

I know I have to be patient and try not to feel like I have to settle for something just because I can't find what I am looking for. The plus side of waiting another month is that I will have more money saved up to be able to afford something a little more so I am trying to look at that side of it.

I'm not stuck on the car. I've got a budget of $5,000 to spend. I've been searching every thing you can think to find used cars within 100 miles. There's seems to be more outside of my city so by the time I see the ad and have to wait until I get off work at a decent time the cars end up selling. I thought $5,000 would be a good in the middle price. I'm not looking for a junker and I dont want a fully modded out one.

You should be Able to find a nice one for that money. I had to drive three hours to find mine. Clean originals are out there.

That cowl damage is probably easily fixed by a good body man but the car isn't worth anywhere near $4500 with those repairs needed.

What's your opinion on buying one that was used as a police car? I found one for $4,850. All stock except for exhaust and gears. Its in very good condition. The guy selling it acts like he really doesn't want to sell it but has other projects he would rather finish.

It's been painted though. It's like an orangish red color.

He had replaced the radiator, hoses, shocks, tie rods. Like I mentioned before, it does have an exhaust and gears. He's not sure what gears but they don't feel to be stock(he's had other mustangs in the past) He's pretty sure the clutch has been switched out because the pedal seems to be stiffer. He's willing to take any kind of pictures I want of the car. He did say there's minor surface rust under the car and took pictures for me. As you can see the torque boxes are in good shape.

It's a coupe, it's clean, and if its an ex cop car, it may (someone chime in here) be an ssp. Either way the A/C is still there too. And *gasp* the ash tray door is closed!!!

Other people may have opinions, but I'd be on it if I had the money.

Other than the 10 foot paint job, it looks like a nice clean, straight car. The fact it's a real SSP makes it even better.

I'm taking the three hour drive down tomorrow morning. If all goes well I will be coming back with it. What I was mainly concerned about was finding a good solid car to start with. I don't really care for the paint job myself. It looks like whoever painted it just painted right over the black/grey paint, but at least there's paint and doesn't have different color body parts or dents/scratches. I think it would be cool to return it to the original paint.
