jack the car up and see how many times the driveshaft turns per one revolution of the tire. 2.73 times = 2.73 ratio. 3.73 = 3.73 ratio. ect. ect.

put the car on stands and put it in neutral. spin the tire and see how many times the driveshaft turns compared to 1 turn of the wheel. example if it turns 3 3/4 turns to 1 of the wheel its 3.73.

You will have to either mark and count axle flange vs pinion flange rotations or just open the pumpkin (remove cover) and count the ring teeth and pinion teeth to get your ratio.

Good luck.

What he said. This is the most accurate way short of opening the housing.

Another way would be with RPM at given speeds in a given gear. But your speedo would have to realitivly accurate to do this.

For example 3.73's with a 26" tall tire in 4th gear at 60 mph would tach at about 2900 rpm.

Ok, I guess I need clarification. I thought he said he bought the rear-end piece-meal. I assumed it was not installed on the car yet. Maybe I am wrong.
