CDC did it for the StangNet GT500. it is a wiring mess that was not easy to do. maybe someone will make a kit to aid in the swap. right now its not worth the hassle if you cant do the work yourself.
I have them on my 08, and they look quite complex.
The lights actually have a moving shield inside them to switch back and forth between low and high beam, so there must be something that controls that solenoid. And when they start, they are "ignited" rather than just illuminated, I'm sure there's a seperate relay for that somewhere.
I was thinking about maybe changing my front end for a GT 500 front end, but replacing the HID lights for the GT500 HID lights might be too expensive...
The moving shield should simply run off +12V as the highbeam.
The HIDs should use +12V for the ballast/ignitor module, which then sends +42V to the HIDs (up 23kV to ignite, 42V to keep them burning). These are D3R capsules so they use less voltage than D1/D2, and are also mercury free.
Can you send me a link to the CDC project? Did they show what they wired up? This shouldn't be rocket science if you have ever done a HID retrofit install.
If anyone has the complete wiring diagrams for the 2008 HID headlamps, I would be more than happy to look at them since I am interested in installing these as well.
As for relays, the stock halogen GTs have relays for the high beams already (factory installed). It would be a matter of just installing 1 additional relay for the low beams.
I know that alot of the cars from Europe that use the moveable shield for the high beam operate that motor off of a 5v DC. Quite a few people have cooked there retro fit by putting 12v to that lead. The factory Ford wire manual I have does not cover the '08 cars. I will have to look into getting a newer version.
I just looked over the wiring diagrams for almost every 2007 Ford/Lincoln/Mercury that I could think of being equipped with factory HIDs. In every instance, they had a separate halogen high beam bulb, but the low beam connector was basically GND and +12V for the ballast. The ballast/ignitor did the rest.
I can't imagine Ford being sophisticated enough to use +5VDC for powering the solenoid for the moving shield on the 2008-up Mustang HIDs.
So far we don't even know if the 2008-up HIDs will physically fit the 2005-2007 S197 without any vehicle mods. Once that is settled, the wiring is going to be pretty simple since Ford likes to stash the ballast right behind the reflector/bulb making it an easy install.
I read a thread on StangsUnleashed where one person bought the GT500 HIDs and said they were 100% plug and play, down to using the OEM harnesses.

What I'd like to know is if the 08 GT HIDs are plug and play for the 05-07 Mustangs. The price is about $1000 for the pair, but this is totally worth it IMHO.
hey seriously anyone considering HIDs...just get the hi/low kit from americanmuscle. theyre so bright, the hi/low works flawlessly, theyre cheaper and they look ****ing sweet too
