I have a 95 Mustang GT 5.0 5 speed.I am getting ready to put on a set of AFR 165 Heads :nice: ,E-303 cam, and Scorpion 1.6 RR.I dont have the money to get the intake manifold right now.So i was wondering how much will the stock intake hurt my performance

Yeah you might be dissapointed when you get it running after spending so much. The stock intake will drag the whole system down. I'd say at the very least try to find an explorer intake. Check your statewide auto recyclers association and don't pay more than $150 for it.

An Explorer is a good choice. The lower needs to be ported to get the full potential from the AFR heads, but you don't have the money - so get the intake and run it as-is now and port the lower later. You can find a used Performer also, but it will cost more than the Explorer unless you get lucky.

Just wait a couple weeks or so till your next paycheck and buy something nice like a trickflow track heat or a holley systemax. No need to hurry and get something just to get it.

Yeah, I know the boat you were in. As I was saving up money, I wanted it NOW NOW NOW....lol.

But you should just wait and buy it all at once. I know how impatient and nerve racking it can be...You will ne so much happier in the end, knowing you have a great combo.

It won't hurt to just do the cam and heads now and wait until you can afford an intake.
The heads and cam do actually help the car perform better than stock even with the stock intake.
There is the weight savings and the roller rockers are more efficient than non roller stockers.
I totally understand being under a budget. I won't be getting an intake anytime soon. I want to get roller rockers and a X-pipe first. Then, sub frame connectors and some other suspension stuff.
So, go ahead and bolt them on and get the intake when it fits your budget.

BTW, with just my Y303s I picked up 0.4s in the 1/4 mile. I also don't have any knocking anymore. I run 16* of timing using 87 octane gas.

From the dyno runs I've seen, the stock 94-94 intake gives up 20 hp over the stock pre-94 EFI intake. So, you'll make up even more than that going with an explorer intake. and more with better flowing intakes. Some of the dyno studies showed actually loosing hp if going too big on intake/head combinations.

I bought the AFR165 too, and as I would do some port work on the heads (along with my cobra intake - gasket match, intake ports match, etc), and it´ll take a while, now I´m using temporarily my stock intake. Considering my previous upgrade (see my sig), man, do this intake have low down torque!! However, it simply dies at 5000... It shoud be worse if you use AFR165, E cam and stock intake. My point is you´ll definetely lose power up there, but will have some fun at low end (and you could enjoy your car while waiting for an upgrade!)
