Stock oil pressure gauge

How much faith should we put in that thing? Mine is rather low allthe time...Usually around the middle of the gauge or so. Should it be higher? This is for my 92 vert. Should I invest in aftermarket gauges now or wait until I do mods?

i would go ahead and get the gauges. And go mechanical. I have Autometer trans temp, oil press and water temp. My stock water temp was giving me probs so I went mechanical and it looks and works great

Stock gauges are not dependable at all..they should never be trusted...I run electric autometer gauges.

aftermarket mechanicals respond much faster too, cause you eliminate the sending unit

I agree with the others. Get some aftermarket ones and they will be much more accurate.
I also prefer mechanical over electrical, although both would be better than stock.

Agreed. These days elec aftermarket gauges are very dependable. I would not let the fact that it is electrical deter anyone from purchasing any.

I agree. I just bought mine because I like my temp gauge to work even when the car is not on.

Also if you do go mechanical for Oil, it is a good idea to upgrade to copper tubing for your line. The stock plastic tubing that comes with the gauge is ok, but not as sturdy as the copper.

Agreed Kevin. I was thinking about oil pressure gauges only.

FWIW, I dont mind mixing and run elec OP and mech temp guages. My volt meter is narrow sweep, so the sweeps dont all match exactly anyhow. Some folks dont like that though.....

just and FYI i have had my mecanical oil pressure gauge installed for about a year with the tubing that came with it...... no problems

I have a car with the nylon line - it has been on there for over 10 years. Like 88 GT 5 Oh and I experienced, it can work fine. But sometimes it does crack and that would suck, esp if the gauge is mounted in a pillar, etc. FWIW, copper line can chatter...... Another pain in and of itself. Noise is a nice tradeoff if worried about cracking nylon lines though......

Have you guys ever came across this?
I was driving and notice I was at a 1/4 tank. SO I passed by gas station after gas station, only to find out the hard way that 1/4 tank = empty. Is there a way to put that back on track so empty is empty?

personally I prefer the Autometer electric guages.............
I don't think I want a oil, coolent, and transmission line coming into my car. It may work great for a while, but eventually those lines will break, and leak all over the place

My stock gauge dances up & down from 65-35 PSI. All this while doing a steady 65 MPH cruse. It only happens on a warm engine. Does anyone else's gauge do this?

The one in my 95 dances around all the time, too. I pay it no mind, since they're woefully inaccurate, from most peoples' experiences with them.

not in the mustang but my moms old 89 aerostar it would drop to zero and the engine light would come on, just driving around normal. we relplaced the sending unit and it worked fine

for the temp guages it doesn't have any fluid coming in... its a capilary (sp?) tube, no fluid involved. plus it stays on when the motor is off, letting you see what the cool down temp is.

the only guages that have fluid coming in are preasure gauges, like oil psi and fuel psi. but you can't mount a mechanical fuel psi in the car anyway
