I don't post much in this part of the forum, and my search didn't really find what I am looking for.
My friend has a late 84 (Nov 84) production mustang 5.0, that a PO installed a C4 into. He is trying to put it back to stock. I was under the impression that it would have a shifter rod, like an earlier model car, but now I'm hearing 'cable'? What is the stock automatic shifter assembly supposed to look like for this car?
My thinking was a steel rod, with the AOD, but now I don't know. Is there a picture somewhere on here by chance that illustrates what I am looking for?
What is the "stock" shifter set up for an 85 GT. 5.0 supposed to look like?
THANKS.

1984 was the first year for the AOD transmission, and it's cable shifted. Basically the shifter bolts to the floor, and a cable connects to the drivers side of the trans and a "throttle valve" cable connects to the throttle body as well.

The same PO that installed the C4, actually put in a B&M shifter, is it possible that the B&M cable is long enough? I've heard so many horror stories about retro fitting an AOD, that I am scared to death to try and use a not stock set up.
I've seen that there are adapters for aftermarket shifters on AOD transmissions, how hard is it to find the stock pieces?
