I have bought and repaired after market headers as they do not hold up. I was advised that the stock exhaust turbo manifolds hold up better. I have two now and now need some help with parts for the bypass valve. I a have attached a photo of the manifold and the area I am referring to is pointed out... Any help or pictures of how one looks put together would be helpful as well. Thank you...

You obviously haven't tried the 40Bob headers. They are a log style like stock, known to be extremely durable, far more so than stock manifolds. That fitting is the EGR adapter. Not 100% sure what you are asking. I would soak that fitting in PB Blaster to see if you can't get it loose, then just swap it to the manifold you are keeping.

Are you talking about an external wastegate?

The threaded port in the manifold is NPT...I think it's 1/2".

Those are also both E3 manifolds that are well-known for cracking in addition to not flowing that well. If you're talking about putting a wastegate on one of those stock manifolds, I wouldn't bother. You'll have better boost ontrol even with an internal wastegate than one hanging off of a skinny hole on the back of the manifold.

If you're not hampered by visual smog inspections like I am, then consider one of the 40Bob log manifolds.

I have cracked e3's and e6's in my shed. I don't think what you've heard is true. Bob's log's been on my car for 6 years or so, and it's solid. Bo has some nice headers too, just little to expensive for my budget.

Thank you, I have had the EGR pluged now. I have read that alot of people are putting the bypass (blowby) valves in the tubing going into the intake... I am looking at doing this... Also, where would I find pricing for the Log style header? I know there has to be something that will hold together I just want my stang on the road and not have to worry about how far Im going to get before the header breaks...

Thanks guys...

So, do you have to have a bypass / blow by valve when you run a turbo? I find that up to about 2nd gear the motor bogs down until I let off the throttle. This was not a problem before the header setup broke...

I don't understand How is a cracked exhaust manifold related to using a blowoff valve?

Non of the 2.3 turbo engines were equipped with a bypass valve from Ford, although it would have been great if they were.

I apologize for the confusion. The cracked header is out of the picture. I currently am running a stock manifold. Only I have to waste gate. I am a noob to the whole turbo thing. So I thought my wastegate was the bypass valve. I am running a built 2.3 with a t3/t4 turbo. What is the purpose of the waste gate and will it cause the engine to bog down? I also have a 3" exhaust... Just wondering where I should look next... Thank you...

In conventional terminology around here, "blowoff valve" and "bypass valve" refers to parts that go between the compressor and throttle body. The wastegate is solely responsible for controlling boost by allowing exhaust to bypass the turbine, thus reducing the drive pressure and ultimately the boost.

Are you running without a wastegate?

I was on the old header setup. Not right now tho. Only the stock manifold has no place for the waste gate... So, looks like I have to find either a turbo with built in wastegate or new manifold/header that will not fall apart on me. I've read about the boblog turbo headers... Ideas?

And just for the record, the motor had been built for turbo use. It is .30 over, stage 1 port and polished head with a very mild cam with hardened valve seats. So the motor should handle just about anything short of me killing it with stupid noob mistakes like running with no wastegate... Lol

Is there any 2.3 turbo guys out there running a t4 turbo? I am really at a lose of how to and where to install the waste gate... It is my one remaining problem to getting it running and on the road... all my other little issues are just that little...
I need the external waste-gate. whats is everyone else using???

If you're using a stock iron manifold, then you're not going to get an external wastegate attached to it. It sounds like you need a wastegated turbine housing...

I've been looking around and just haven't found other products that will fit and be of good quality to hold together.
65shelbyclone, you mentioned changing the housing. What would I do or where could I go for a alternate housing?

And thank you for your responses

It depends on what kind of turbine your T3/T4 has. There are different "stages" of the T3 turbine available and the higher the stage, the bigger the wheel for more flow. You'll mostly likely have to remove the turbine housing and get a reasonably precise measurement of the wheel's diameters to know. It would be a good idea to do the same for the compressor wheel. There are lots of T4 compressor options. T3 turbine housings also abound on the aftermarket. The stock T3 has one that looks like this:

The wastegate flapper is integrated into a cast downpipe elbow that bolts onto the five-bolt outlet flange. Another option is to use a flat outlet flange and attach an external wastegate to that.

A couple clear photos of your turbo would be helpful.

okay, so the search for a new housing hasn't been as I had hoped...

With out my waste-gate I don't know what my PSI is at and don't want to damage the motor or turbo...
