Stockers VS. High Flow

Alright, heard it a thousand times, if I want LOUD, go with an offroad midpipe. Only problem is I live in California and running no cats here is worse than murder.

Question : Would my setup (see sig) sound considerably louder if I had the two farthest cats (the ones closest to the mufflers) chopped off and welded in a pair of high flow ones?...yes I know that technically by CA law, cutting off the OEM cats if the vehicle is under 8years/80000 miles is a no no...but would this be enough to "wake up" my exhaust note even more? Or would I need to do something about those pre cats as well?

Thanks

I'm sure it would help, but ahhh in the grand scheme of thigns I see it as a waste of money.

You may be right, but in the grand scheme of things isn't making any modification to a car that is driven daily a waste of money?...so maybe the only way to measure the worth of a mod is by how much you enjoy the car afterwards and if if in this case, it makes it as loud as I want it to, then cool...if not...then yes it was a waste of money.

try the catted prochamber, its got high flows and wakes it up a lot....

mustangexhaust still hasnt uploaded my soundfile, but if you want it pm me and I'll send it to ya

Do it right and get magnaflow catted X

Do people here understand that all four locations on the stock H-Pipe aren't Converters?

The first two are Pre Cats they do the super heating. The last two are the ones that do all of the real cleaning.

Not to mention they aren't very resrictive in this configuration.

Thanks for the clarification on the Pre cats...but although the actual cats may not be as restrictive as we think in terms of flow (although aftermarket companies and 2 millions posts on this forum and others swear different) do you or anyone have any idea how restrictive they are in terms of sound dampening?

wms004 how do your flows sound with the Magnaflow catted X ? Any rasp at all?

Thanks
I actually have no rasp at all. The exhaust sound is smoother than with the stock H, which was a surprise since "everyone" was telling me that chambered mufflers are raspy with x pipes.. But "everyone" was wrong because the magnaflow unit w/ cats is not raspy with my 2 chamber delta flows.

I have a video if you want me to send.. My email is [email protected]

I could swap my mid pipe in 1hr. why don't you just buy an o/r pipe and the swap the old pipe back in for DEQ.

by my understanding even altering two of the cats is still illegal. so if you are going to do something illegal why not just take them all out.

Believe me I've thought about it many times...but just in case I get caught in a California State "air quality" checkpoint, I don't want to face $2500 per missing cat...so going with the high flow ones is a better bet because a) I won't lose too much low end due to still having some backpressure and b) I can always have a documented excuse as to why my cats had to be replaced since I've got over 50K miles on the car...know what I mean?
