i just recently purchased a h/c/i combo but is going to be a little while before i get the rest of my parts so my question is will any of the parts rust up while they are sitting? The heads are in the plastic bags and cardboard boxes that they came in. The cam and intake are also in boxes. I have all the parts inside my house in my room but ive still been told to spray them down with wd40 or some other type of lube if im going to let them sit any longer, does this sound like a good idea? They should be alright in my room shouldn't they?

A new cam usually comes in some sort of rust inhibitor. I have stored a cam for nearly a year and a half with no problems. On the heads I would coat them with some sort of oil. Probably use some Pam or other spray cooking oil as it will stick. Using something as wet as WD-40 might not stick to the heads. You shouldn't have any problem with the intake.
