Whats the reason for using an H/X instead of straight pipes from the headers to the c/b? Is exhaust balancing really that important?

Yes it is that important mid pipes help control exahust pulses creating a better "scavenging(sp?)" effect.

plus stright pipes sound like total crap and its even more illegal then running an O/R H pipe. Oh yeah and it sounds like crap.

In other words it help get rid of exhaust gases better to keep the pipes free flowing and not congusted(sp?).

It helps create a vacuum basically that helps to pull the exhaust out.

I also heard you could lose power with straight pipes. Mufflers are important because they create compression.

Actually, backpressure, but you're right. Our motors need a certain amount of backpressure to achieve low-end torque. That's why switching from the stock mid-pipe to one without cats can sometimes rob people of some torque, but give back a lot of top-end power.

i had straights on my car for a while and i didn't think it sounds too horrible it was straight off of LT's

The original post is asking about seperate pipes instead of an h/x-pipe, and subsequent posts are talking about not running mufflers.
